IO Aeronautical Autonomy Labs, LLC

At IO-Aero, we are striving to make general aviation safer and easier by providing dynamic calculations and flying support for general aviation pilots using electronic flight bags on iPads and iPhones. Every year, nearly 400 American pilots and passengers lose their life in general aviation accidents. Our research has found that 70% of those accidents could be prevented with better control by the pilot and more informed decision making. We founded IO-Aero to provide this support to pilots with the goal of not only saving lives but making better pilots from the ground up.

While IO-Aero was founded in 2023, the vision for our company began many years before. Since 2014, when the United States Air Force integrated the Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto GCAS) on the F-16 fighter airplane, ground collision fatalities on the F-16 have dropped to zero while 13 aircrew and planes have been saved by the system. We were a part of the NASA development and test team for Auto GCAS, and these results inspired us to begin working on other safety systems and other types of aviation, like civilian general aviation.

At IO-Aero we envision making human pilots better and safer pilots in the near term by introducing these advanced systems in general aviation cockpits. Further, we plan to penetrate this market by offering our systems at a cost that’s orders of magnitude cheaper than the more primitive aviation systems available today.
